Strong, “plastic” taste won’t go away, July 14, 2007

Have used the Bodum electric kettle for travel for years, but decided I’d purchase this Proctor Silex for the office since it was a few bucks cheaper. That was a mistake.

Despite boiling and dumping out the water a half-dozen times, the water itself STILL tasted like “plastic.” Ick. As a tea drinker, the quality of the water is key. Also, I found the general shape difficult to handle, the lid was hard to open, and when gently pouring the water it consistently (and dangerously) sloshed out the sides near the spout.

Anyway, I ended up giving this one away and buying an additional Bodum electric kettle for the office. It’s working great, just like the 10-year-old Bodum I take traveling. (I think it’s also interesting to note that the classic, no-frills, usable design of the Bodum has remain unchanged in the past 10 years – Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t ‘fix’ it.)

Faster & Hotter than Microwaving, June 15, 2006

I first became hooked on electric kettles when traveling in the U.K. and have kept putting off getting one. This is perfect for my six (O, heavens did I really say six!) cups of tea a day. Faster than the microwave (only because its actually boiled and hot) and no worrys about…did I leave the stove on as it has a brilliant auto shut-off. It even stays plenty warm enough to top off the first cup of tea. I love it, am only sorry it took this many years to indulge my self with such a simple product!

P.S — Terrific on snowy days when the kids come in and want hot coco…FAST! (Makes one feel like SuperMom for the rare second or two!!! <g>)

Good Electric Kettle, January 21, 2005

This Electric Kettle is quite simple without any frills. For the price, it does what it claims to do. It boils water quickly , the water level is easy to see and has the auto-shut off feature. I have used it reliably to boil water for tea, oatmeal etc. The water is quite hot, so use caution when pouring it out. The lid , can sometimes be hard to close & open.

Why are people sending in bad reviews on this? I almost didn’t buy it because of it. I’m glad i didn’t listen. It’s simple…you unbox it, remove the plastic and it automatically goes into shape. The smell…out of the box the smell is very light mint, like toothpaste only not as strong as the toothpaste. On the bed with the sheet over it, no smell at all. ODOR is not a problem. I have Fibromyalgia, for those that have it you know how horrible the pain is when you wake up and very hard too sleep. In one nights use, wake up…almost no pain at all. Just slightly. NO MORE TOSSING AND TURNING BECAUSE OF THE PAIN NEITHER. Best sleep i have had in a very long time and when someone sits on the bed or moves around a lot, you don’t feel it on your side and it will not wake you up. Less pain means less pain medication. I love it. Sleeps perfectly. I bought a queen and it fits on my mattress perfectly. It was cheaper than the white one that’s why I bought this one. Very glad that I did. Money very-well spent. Wish I would have bought it sooner.

Maybe too soft for me, October 29, 2010

I bought the regular Visco(the white one) and this one for myself and a family member, they say some people are allergic to the new smell and what not but i didnt have a problem with either. My main concern is that the this green one is noticably softer than the regular Visco even though they are both noted as 3lb density per cubic foot. Ive had the green one for two weeks now and the white one for 2 days, its possible that there is quality loss in the green one but i dont think so because i noticed the green one being this soft from the first day. Anyways i like the white one more because it is firmer and gives better support for me. Hope this helps anyone considering between the two.

Uggs!, December 21, 2012

I was skeptical about buying Uggs anywhere else besides ugg.com but boy am I happy I bought these. Pink is my favorite color and the name fits the color perfect. Whenever I wear these I get tons of compliments about how pretty they are and some say they’ve never seen them before. Can’t go wrong with these bubblegum Uggs.

I’ve had this scale for a couple years, and I’m very happy with it. It’s accurate, repeatable +/- 0.02 grams on different days, and has held up through moderate handling (nothing abusive, but stuff that I’d never put my lab scale through).

It uses what I call a “floating zero”. This is good and bad… When within 0.03 grams of zero and steady, it displays 0.00 and slowly adjusts its zero. If you slowly add 0.01 grams at a time, you can get it to drift way off, and when you eventually take off all the weights at once, it’ll display -0.20 grams or whatever their weight was. The good is that the scale, despite its inexpensive mechanism, keeps very good zero calibration between measurements. The downside is that it makes small measurements difficult. If you want to weigh out 0.15 grams of powder, you can’t just tare your weigh paper and then gradually pour it on – the zero will drift unless you add the first 0.05 grams quickly enough. Instead, you can NOT tare it, and manually subtract the weigh paper.

This feature is not a problem at all unless you’re weighing very small (less than 0.1 grams) items on a regular basis. I think this is an acceptable compromise for a pocket scale of this precision at this price (and it’s practically standard until you get to much more expensive equipment), so I am not marking any points off.
